Three years after the reissue of Mario Bellini’s original project, Tacchini enhances the natural comfort of the Le Mura collection with a new XL version: the depth of the seat is increased, and together with the new, soft cushions that can be moved freely, it introduces a new, more intimate and homely dimension to enjoy its comfort in the company of friends and family. Le Mura XL also highlights the versatility of the original design with additional modules — corner units and chaise longue — that allow for the creation of larger configurations. Reissued by Tacchini in 2022 while respecting its free and innovative spirit, Mario Bellini’s Le Mura represents the manifesto of 1970s radical design, addressing questions of aesthetics, proportions, and ergonomics, as well as deeper issues related to social, ethical, and moral content. The result is a project that unites modules of different shapes and sizes in virtually infinite configurations without ever losing the inexhaustible energy that characterises it, both today and in the past. Far from being just a sofa, Le Mura focuses on modularity, which is already expressed in the name, referring to the large stones that made up Roman walls and can, like the system’s elements, theoretically be joined endlessly to fit into spaces of varying dimensions.
